Kunsthalle Vogelmann, 2026, Ernst-Franz-Vogelmann Preis für Skulptur
Andrea Pichl erhält den Ernst Franz Vogelmann-Preis für Skulptur 2026. Die renommierte Auszeichnung geht damit erstmals an eine Künstlerin, die in der DDR geboren und in Ost-Berlin aufgewachsen ist. Diese zweigeteilte Biografie bietet die Folie ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit, die sich im Kontext u.a. von Architektur und Stadtplanung mit dem Wechselverhältnis von öffentlichem und privatem Raum beschäftigt. In ihren Werken wird der „Bedeutungswandel des öffentlichen und privaten Lebens vor und nach der deutschen Wiedervereinigung erfahrbar“, so die Jury. Architektonische Baukörper, in Kombination mit Fotografien und Zeichnungen, spüren die Widersprüche von Geschichte und Geschichten auf und beleuchten zugleich wirtschaftliche, kulturelle und soziale Dimensionen im Verhältnis zwischen Ost und West. So rücken höchst fragwürdige Verwerfungen wie etwa der wechselseitige Transfer von Kapital, Waren und Dienstleistungen in den Fokus und verweisen auf das der Allgemeinheit verborgen Gebliebene und explizit Verschwiegene. Für ihre erste Einzelausstellung in Süddeutschland entwickelte Andrea Pichl ein installatives Konzept mit neuen Arbeiten, das zum Dialog einlädt und zentrale Fragen des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalts ins Bewusstsein rückt.
Andrea Pichl has been awarded the 2026 Ernst Franz Vogelmann Prize for Sculpture. This marks the first time the prestigious award has been presented to a female artist born in the GDR and raised in East Berlin. This dual background provides the backdrop to her artistic practice, which explores the interplay between public and private space within the context of architecture and urban planning, amongst other fields. In her works, “the shift in the meaning of public and private life before and after German reunification becomes tangible”, according to the jury. Architectural structures, combined with photographs and drawings, trace the contradictions of history and individual narratives whilst simultaneously shedding light on the economic, cultural and social dimensions of the relationship between East and West. In this way, highly questionable disparities – such as the reciprocal transfer of capital, goods and services – come into focus, drawing attention to what has remained hidden from the general public and what has been explicitly concealed. For her first solo exhibition in southern Germany, Andrea Pichl has developed an installation-based concept featuring new works that invites dialogue and raises awareness of key issues relating to social cohesion.
