„Atomic Garden“ refers in idea to the evolutin factor mutation.  Mutation is one of the most important evolutionary factors. A mutation is understood as a change in the genetic material. Mutations occur randomly and undirected. This means that their occurrence has no direct purpose. In 1959, the Atomic Garden Society was founded, whose members planted irradiated seeds and systematically recorded what came out. Irradiated was the entire range of major food crops. The idea was that if mutations were artificially produced by radioactive radiation, more plant species would also be produced.
